QR Codes

My cuties love using QR codes in the classroom for learning!  I introduce them as "robot sight words" with these little cutie robots to help me out.

I then let my students know that the robots turned our sight words into robot sight words, but that we have a way to "read" the sight words with our iPods.  The littles were so perplexed and excited to read robot sight words and I was so excited to find these robot cut-outs at Dollar Tree to glue the sight words onto.

We love our iPods!  We received them in an Innovative Teaching Grant last year.

If you're interested in learning more about QR codes, I have several resources for you for FREE!  Here is a video of my class from two years ago with the iPads.

I also created this document to help you learn how to create QR codes.

On my class website, I have a whole page devoted to QR code creating for you to use for FREE!

Happy creating!

iWant to Listen to Stories!

I cannot believe school will start up next month.  I have been a busy bee in my small, two-week window of summer (between summer school and going to Peru).  One thing I knew I just had to make was this product for Listening to Stories for our Daily 5 time.

I plan to use the iPod touches that I will receive through my innovation grant that I received in May.  Kinders LOVE QR codes and I know they'll love this fun, new way to listen to stories independently.

I plan to make these for each month, so let me know if there are particular stories you would like for October.

Grab it in my store for only $2!

More fun with QR codes!

I was so excited and blessed to get an innovative teaching grant from my district's education foundation before the school year ended!  They came for a surprise visit and awarded the grant to me.  My class will get 4 iPod Touches in the fall.

I wrote this grant to get more tools to use for scanning QR codes.  I LOVE using QR codes and so do the littles in my classroom.  I have made a few goodies about QR codes that are available in my store.  Click below to see them.

I also have a whole page on my website about QR codes if you want to visit it to learn more.

And here is a video of my class using QR codes for a sight words hunt:

Beginning Blends with QR Codes

This past year my cuties really enjoyed QR codes and searching the room for them to practice a concept we had been working on.

Here is my YouTube video I posted before of them searching for QR codes:

I created this product for conducting a QR codes hunt for beginning blends.

Click the pic above to grab it for only $2.

Check us out!

So I am the technology person for my campus, which I do not feel adequate enough for the job.  I really do try to integrate technology into learning, but it is hard to do all of the time.  I have to admit, though, that I have fallen in love with using QR codes to make student learning more engaging.  Here is a video of us on a sight word hunt.

We called it Robot Sight Words.  My kids are very obsessed with robots, so when I met Moby from BrainPop, they totally went bonkers.

Anyways, I told my cuties that we were going to go on a sight word hunt, but that Moby wanted to help.  Then next thing I knew, he turned our sight words into robot words!  That crazy robot!  So then I showed them how to use a QR code reader and they hunted for the sight words from this document:

They loved finding robot sight words!

Here is one more video, just for fun:

If you want to learn more about QR codes, check out my presentation document below from when I presented to my campus.

Happy weekend!

Using QR Codes

I don't know if you are familiar with QR (quick response) codes, but I am becoming a fan of them.  They are so easy to use and kinders love using the iPads for anything, so I have been creating fun activities that use QR codes.  Here is a sight word scavenger hunt for you.  It uses the sight words be, good, go, she, said, will, play, and for.  Place the cards around the room and let students scan them with a QR reader on a iPad.  Then they record the word on the recording sheet.

I also created this document that walks you through creating them and other uses for them.

I am also working on adding a QR codes page to my website.  Here is a very rough draft of it.  It will look better soon and have tons of resources, I promise.

Wish me luck because tomorrow I am presenting on QR codes for my campus after school.  EEKK!
