Fabulous 50th Day of School!

Wow wee wow!  Today was fabulous!!  I love the 50th day of school.  We had a blast and learned so much!

We started our day with comparing the 1950's to today with this little reader.  Then we had a sock hop.

For a little extra literacy/printing practice we played Spin the Record from Kathleen's packet.  To play the game, students spin the record and record the matching beginning sound.

One game we played that was the bee's knees was sight word bowling.  I prepared my 6 sets of pins with ten different sight words.  Then the littles bowled and recorded the pins that fell down.

We continued our day with a hula hoop contest.  Then we made "hula hoop" necklaces with Froot Loops.  To help my littles be successful in creating their necklaces, I provided them with a sorting mat with five circles.  The littles then placed 10 Froot Loops in each circle to have five sets of 10.

We are 50 days smarter!  I can't wait until next year's 50's day!

Fabulous 50th Day of School!

What a wonderfully, busy week in the land of PreK!  We celebrated 50 days of learning with 50's themed activities.

To start the day, we learned about life in the fifties verses life today.  We read this little freebie book

(Click above to get it.)

We also sorted pictures of today's life verses the fifties.  They loved the Barbie and the truck!

For our letter learning, we went bowling.  Student groups were given sets of bowling pins with letters attached to them.  Students recorded any letters that fell over on the recording sheet below.

We also made root beer floats by following the directions on our chart.

After making them, we used our five senses to learn about root beer floats.  I LOVE that we could hear the fizz in the float.  Do you see the ear I drew in the bottom right corner with the sound one of my cuties described!

After describing the floats, we create dour own to take home as a memory from the day.

(Don't you just love puffy paint?!?)

It was also oodles of fun to have a sock hop and wear our fifties themed clothing!  (Maybe one day I will actually get a picture of my poodle skirt.)

It has been truly fabulous to spend 50 days with these cuties!

Fabulous Fifties Fun!

Yesterday was our 50th day of school!

I have never celebrated this day, but I have always wanted to.  We dressed up in 50's clothing (but I never got a picture of my outfit, complete with a poodle skirt).  Here is one precious cuties all dolled up for the fun:

Our day was filled with learning and excitement.  We played sight word bowling.  I wrote sight words on several sets of bowling pins that I borrowed.

Then I placed my cuties into groups and they bowed away.

They had to record the words that fell over using the recording sheet from my {FREE} Sight Word Bowling activity on TPT.

We also played a letter/sound game from Growing Kinders Rock Around the Clock unit from TPT.  Students spin a "record" and record the matching letter sound.

For math we are working on patterns, so I die-cutted a bunch of "records" and we made different patterns with them.

Then we recorded our patterns on a recording sheet I grabbed from Little Warriors' blog.

Of course, we ended the day with a Sock Hop!
